The Knopf Doubleday Creative Services department seeks an Art Director to lead a team of three designers in the creation of marketing assets ranging from online advertising, online promotion/social media assets (static/animated/video), lifestyle photography, point-of-sale materials, and promotional merchandise. Reporting to the VP & Director, Creative Marketing & Advertising Services, this experienced leader in art direction will be day one ready to work alongside a team of marketers, editors, creatives, and publishing professionals to position our books here at KDPG.
The Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group is a storied leader in commercial and literary publishing, comprised of the Knopf, Doubleday, Pantheon, Schocken, Vintage, Anchor, and Everyman’s Library imprints. It is the home to some of the most iconic authors in the world, including Nobel Laureates Kazuo Ishiguro, Toni Morrison, Alice Munro, and Elie Wiesel; Prize-winners Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, Margaret Atwood, Robert Caro, Joan Didion, Yaa Gyasi, Jhumpa Lahiri, Cormac McCarthy, Michael Ondaatje, Tommy Orange, Art Spiegelman, Anne Tyler, and Colson Whitehead; and global bestsellers Dan Brown, Bonnie Garmus, John Grisham, Erin Morgenstern, and Jo Nesbo.
The Art Director will work closely with marketers across the division to ensure that our advertising and promotional materials reflect a modern aesthetic and present our books and authors in the most dynamic and persuasive manner. They should stay abreast of marketing trends in books specifically but also across all media to ensure that our ads have the greatest chance of grabbing consumers’ attention. They are attuned to data-driven decision making and driven by marrying performance with artistic creativity. Multi-tasking and problem-solving are second nature to them, and they thrive on working on multiple projects simultaneously. The Art Director will take on projects themselves, assign tasks to the team of designers, and manage a freelancer budget to ensure a consistent high level of quality across the group’s creative assets. They will have the ability to think strategically about how our assets represent our books, authors, imprints, and the company as a whole.
