Job Description

SUMMARY:

The CTE Instructor – Education Occupations will serve as the teacher of record for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program in education, designed to prepare high school students for careers in the field of education. This program will follow Michigan’s guidelines for State-Approved CTE programs and serve local school districts within the Marquette-Alger region. The instructor will be responsible for student instruction, curriculum support, and coordination of work-based learning experiences while utilizing a hybrid teaching model, integrating both in-person and virtual instruction. The role requires travel to multiple school and observation sites, collaboration with higher education institutions and local education professionals, and ensuring compliance with CTE program requirements set by the MDE Office of Career and Technical Education.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Teach, facilitate and enhance curriculum aligned with Michigan's CTE Education General program (CIP 13.0000)
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons using varied instructional methods, including lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and work-based learning experiences
  • Provide students with foundational teaching and leadership skills to prepare for careers in early childhood, K-12, and special education
  • Supervise and evaluate students in school-based work placements, ensuring compliance with state regulations
  • Utilize a hybrid teaching model, integrating virtual instruction as needed
  • Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and professional development opportunities for students
  • Implement and document planning and preparation activities to ensure that quality assessment, instruction, and evaluation activities occur consistently 
  • Evaluate, document, and communicate student career-ready practice performance into the grading process on a regular and timely basis.
  • Collaborate with local school districts, colleges, and community organizations to support student learning and career pathways
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and required documentation for CTE program reporting
  • Stay current with educational law, classroom safety protocols, and teaching best practices
  • Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Support students in earning certifications and credentials aligned with industry standards
  • Maintain an advisory committee with local education professionals, holding a minimum of 2 meetings a year, to ensure program alignment with workforce needs
  • Utilize Google Classroom, student information systems (e.g., Powerschool), remote learning platforms, and educational technology as needed to successfully complete educational and recordkeeping responsibilities
  • Participate in professional development as required by Marquette-Alger RESA and the Michigan Department of Education
  • Ensure students are trained in essential workplace skills, including confidentiality, ethics, FERPA, child safety, and inclusivity practices
  • Actively recruit and promote the program to prospective students
  • Utilize student, classroom, and regional data to recommend program improvements
  • Travel as needed between school sites within the Marquette-Alger RESA region
  • Comply with all RESA policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Career and Technical Education
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, career & technical education, early childhood education, or a related field
  • Has a Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or is eligible for an experienced based authorization as detailed below:
    • Professional Teaching Certificate with the Education General Endorsement (CIP Code 13.0000) OR
    • Meets requirements for an Annual Career Authorization/Endorsement in the 13.0000 (Education General) cluster, with a minimum of at least 4,000 hours of recent and relevant (last 10 years) work experience in the Education and/or Early Childhood professions.
  • Work experience in Education or Early Childhood professions
  • Ability to successfully implement competency-based instructional programs
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and the community
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License and ability to travel to multiple school sites as required
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Industry certification in education or related field
  • Teaching experience in early childhood or K-12 settings 
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional planning
  • Demonstrated ability to manage student leadership opportunities and work-based learning
  • Familiarity with Michigan’s CTE program guidelines and compliance requirements

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

  • Must keep the affairs of Marquette-Alger RESA and LEAs confidential at all times.
  • Must uphold confidentiality of privileged and sensitive student/staff information
  • Requires regional job travel using personal vehicle
  • Occasional overnight travel downstate for conferences and activities of professional organizations
 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, academic-year position; Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job

COMPENSATION: According to Marquette-Alger RESA Education Association (MEA) Bargaining Unit Scale; Compensation includes a full benefits package
