Position Overview and Responsibilities:

An opportunity is available for a self-motivated, detail-oriented, team player to fill the position of Environmental Specialist II at the Florida Park Service District 1 Administrative Office. The office is located in St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach, Florida. 

 

  • The position focuses on natural community management, invasive species management and restoration and protection of natural communities. The selected applicant will fill the District Exotic Species Coordinator Role.
  • Manages, in coordination with state and federal wildlife agencies, the district’s exotic and nuisance species control program. 
  • Researches and coordinates information needed to plan for and develop programs for environmental restoration, the protection of listed species, fire management, unit management plans, as well as other natural and cultural resource management activities within District 1.
  • Responsible for review and approval of district Research and Collection permits. 
  • Serves as liaison between parks and mosquito control districts and is responsible for review of arthropod control plans.
  • Plans, develops and implements exotics species control projects and activities in coordination with park managers and district staff.
  • Attends approved professional meetings and symposia and publishes or presents material from research findings or projects.

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • The terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences and data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
  • Florida invasive plants and animals

 

SKILL IN:

  • Habitat/natural community assessment and wildlife monitoring/surveys.

 

ABILITY TO:

  • Collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical data
  • Prepare technical reports
  • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs
  • Deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Work independently and with others
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments independently and with others
  • Utilize problem solving techniques.
  • Utilize computer and related data analysis, organizational and ARC GIS mapping software.

 

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • At least 4 years of verifiable related experience with the management of Natural resources, specifically Invasive plant and animal species. Post-secondary degrees from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences, forestry, natural resources, or environmental studies may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

 

  • Valid Driver’s License

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to complete basic prescribed fire training including S130/S190/L180 and I-100

 

 

Pay:

Base salary $3,546.80 monthly/ $42,561.60 annually
