The Strategic and Long-Range Communications Group develops new system concepts and techniques to support the US Government’s most critical communications needs. The Group specializes in RF communications in multi-domain applications (ground, sea, air, and space) for global assured connectivity in the presence of adversary interference and interception threats. The Group leverages its expertise in communications system analysis, digital signal processing, RF technology, rapid prototyping, and field experimentation to research, develop, characterize, and demonstrate new capabilities.
The Group is seeking talented and enthusiastic summer research interns to engage in modeling & simulation, analysis and/or implementation of RF communications systems. Specific project work may include system analysis, signal processing modelling and analysis; GPP, GPU, or FPGA development; system test and measurement in a benchtop environment; or system characterization in fielded environments.
A successful candidate will be pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field. Candidate with experience or coursework in wireless communications systems, information theory, analog circuit design, embedded software design, and/or digital signal processing is desired.
The Summer Research Program offers students the chance to apply their academic knowledge to real-world national security challenges while working alongside leading scientists and engineers. As an SRP intern, you’ll engage in hands-on research, receive dedicated mentorship, and take part in professional development opportunities including workshops, tech talks, and networking events—all while building connections within a vibrant community of peers.
Compensation
Hourly pay rates below are effective January 2025 – December 2025 and will be reviewed again for Summer 2026.
Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
