The Occupational Therapist (OT) will provide comprehensive, quality occupational therapy services to children in a center-based ABA setting, focusing on gross motor skills, fine motor skills, feeding, sensory processing, prevention and management of orthopedic problems in upper extremities, prevocational/vocational skills, environmental adaptation and adaptive equipment, and other activities of daily living . Comprehensive services include but not limited to: evaluation, planning, therapeutic activities and interventions, multi-disciplinary teamwork, counseling, referrals and education of families and professionals. To perform duties successfully, the OT not only must have the technical skills and experience to be effective and productive, but also possess the professional disposition to be an effective team member and maintain a positive work environment.
Mature interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills are essential in order to work effectively with colleagues, schools, staff, ancillary service providers, parents and caregivers in programming that is both comprehensive and family-centered.
Working with clinic leadership, general responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Continual management and archiving of client files
· Timely response to feedback and suggestions from direct supervisor and other members of the collaborative team;
· Participating in weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings/trainings as required by NAC, or for certification/safety/compliance purposes;
· Participating in activities/events to support the growth and development of Northwest Autism Center;
Job Requirements:
Active Washington State Occupational Therapist License (ability to get state licensed within 30 days of hire required);
· Experience working with clients with autism spectrum disorder and related disorders or specific course work in these areas;
· Ability to work after clinic and school hours as assigned;
· Effective communication with clients, caregivers, and staff;
· Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills;
· Demonstrate basic understanding and application of ABA principles;
· Continued professional development in evidence-based occupational therapy treatment and ABA methods (attend trainings, reaching out to experts, seeking info and knowledge, etc).
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
· Must be able to lift and carry clients
Must be able to hear most common sounds, with or without accommodation.
· Must be able to physically speak (using mouth movements and vocal chords), with or without accommodation.
· Must be fluent in the English language
· Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time.
· After training, must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements in the course of working with children who pose imminent danger to self or others.
· Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.
· Must be physically present at the assigned job location
· Must be able to receive and understand detailed information through oral communication.
· Must have visual acuity, with or without accommodation, to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will work in an office environment with ambient temperature and general office noise. Due to the nature of Autism Center’s business, frequent loud noises from children and families will be heard throughout the day during workshops and therapy sessions.
